While Powerscourt Distillery have been busy building and commissioning their fantastic new distillery, we sat down with Master Distiller, Noel Sweeney, to try some of the fantastic new range of whiskeys that they have sourced and released under the brand name ‘Fercullen’. If you are interested in hearing all about the new distillery or the journey that Whisky Magazine Hall of Famer, Noel Sweeney, took from Cooley to Powerscourt Distillery, listen in to our discussion on Potstilled Radio, here.
Fercullen 10 Year Old Single Grain, is a Cooley distilled grain whiskey (distilled by Noel Sweeney before he moved to Powerscourt), which is aged in ex-bourbon barrels before being bottled at 40% ABV (80 Proof).
Nose: Sweet decadent honey, vanilla, and underlying caramel tones form a bright and juicy nose. This is followed by ripe fruity tones of raspberry, apples, and clementines.
Palate: The body consists of sweet grain notes with bright wood influence from the bourbon barrels. Vanilian comes to the fore with pear, banana and apple. This palate is a great sipper and very easy to drink.
Finish: The finish is short but pleasant, with sweet wood tones remaining.
Enjoyable whiskey, easy drinker. Decent pour.
