Tonight saw the launch of the newest expression of the Mitchell & Sons/Irish Distillers Spot Range, Red Spot. The event took place in Mitchell’s old bonding cellars under the streets of Merrion Square, where attendees were brought through the heritage of the Spot Range and introduced to the whiskey that has been absent from the Irish whiskey landscape for over five decades. Although, it seems that another Spot release flew under the radar at this event.
You can check out our advanced thoughts on the Red Spot release here.
If the title hasn’t given it away at this point, I should point out that I am in-fact talking about the Mitchell & Son’s exclusive Cask Strength, Single Cask bottling of Green Spot Irish Whiskey.
This limited edition bottling will only be available from the Mitchell & Sons website and brick and mortar stores. They will be limited to just 288 bottles at cask strength, which is rumoured to be around 61.7% ABV. This expression finds itself matured in ex-bourbon casks, sherry butts, and Bordeaux red wine casks.
It will retail for €195 and can be found on the Mitchell’s website for pre-order now. Unfortunately, since publishing this expression has now sold out. Although, it appears you may be able to directly call Mitchell’s to be put on a waiting list for no shows.

This is not the first time that Mitchell’s have released their own, exclusive expressions from the Green Spot range. Although, if the fan fare that surrounded the previous exclusive releases is anything to go by, this bottling won’t hang around long!
There is no indication if this bottling will join its Red Spotted brethren at Dublin’s Whiskey Live, although, something tells me that this could be an under the table job so keep the eyes peeled!
