Irishman Single Malt – A Review

This whiskey was reviewed as a part of the Drinks By the Dram’s Irish whiskey Advent Calendar during the Christmas season of 2018. Thankfully the door on this particular day was good to me with a drop of Walsh Whiskey’s Irishman Single Malt whiskey. Bottled at 40% ABV this is the second Walsh Whiskey expression to... The Silkie Blended Irish Whiskey – A Review

The Silkie Irish whiskey is the first independent bottling from the soon to be constructed Sliabh Liag Distillery in Co. Donegal. Plans are in place to have this distillery constructed at some point in 2019 and, here they will distill both single pot still and single malt whiskeys that will be triple distilled and peated, following the traditional peating of whiskey in the Donegal region.

Advent #8 – Sadler’s Peaky Blinders

This whiskey is an unusual piece of the Irish whiskey fabric currently. It is tied to the immensely popular, period drama, Peaky Blinders. The whiskey was produced as a licenced product of the show and caused its own controversy in the Irish whiskey industry by plastering ‘Product of the British Isles’ across all of their... Advent #7 – Roe & Co. Whiskey

The world of Irish Whiskey was shocked when Diageo made the announcement, in 2014, that they would be selling their stake in the Old Bushmills Irish Whiskey Distillery. It seemed that they would be leaving the Irish whiskey industry, right as it was on the cusp of a boom. Well their inactivity didn’t last too... Continue Reading →

Red Spot – A Review

Unless you've been living under a rock recently you will be very aware that Irish Distillers just dropped the long awaited Red Spot Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey!  The whiskey was launched in the Mitchell & Sons old wine and whiskey maturation cellars, under the streets of Dublin's Merrion Square. This was a very fitting location for the brand to be re-introduced to the world after nearly fifty years in absentia. The once core range whiskey was historically a fifteen year old, wine barrel matured single pot still from the John Jameson Distillery, Bow Street, Dublin.

Green Spot Cask Strength Single Cask

Episode 7 – Dick Mack’s Dingle – Finn Mac Donnell

Dick Mack's Pub in Dingle, County Kerry, is a traditional pub in, what is, the most Westerly town in Europe. While this seems like an unlikely location for a whiskey pilgrimage site, Dick Mack's, under the guidance of Finn Mac Donnell (and a helping hand from Peter White), has become one of Ireland's leading whiskey watering holes.

Teeling’s Single Pot Still – Marketing Launch of the Year

Few events this year have been as anticipated as the release of Teeling’s first Single Pot Still Whiskey, but wait no more, the whiskey is up for sale… at auction!   As I’m sure you all know, Teeling Whiskey’s spirit has just hit three years allowing it to be legally described as “Irish Whiskey”. Their first barrel that they are releasing to the general public is a very interesting, 50/50 (50% malted and 50% unmalted barley) Single Pot Still that has been aged exclusively in Muscat barrels.

Dingle Whiskey Review

Dingle whiskeys are some of the most sought after whiskeys on the market right now. Although, due to their incredible commercial value, very few are being opened for actual consumption. This is why I sat down with Head Distiller, Michael Walsh, to taste through some of the past and present releases of Dingle Whiskey to highlight some of the actual flavours you will find in Dingle Whiskey.
